A lead communion token dating to the post medieval period, c. AD 1575 to 1800.
The object is square in plan with a raised pellet border around the edge. On the front of the object is raised lettering "LB". The object is flat and undecorated on the reverse.
This object is probably a communion token which were first used in Scotland in the late 16th century and continued to be used mainly be the presbyterian church until the 19th century. The purpose of the object was to ensure that those who received communion had been visted by church elders who had confirmed that the recipient's lifestyle was inkeeping with the standards of the church.
