An incomplete copper alloy strap end of medieval date. The main body of the strap end has been lost to old worn breaks so that only the shoulders and terminal remain. The terminal is circular and extends by a narrowed waist from the shoulders. It is decorated with a central openwork quatrefoil and an incised line tracing the edges. A single rivet survives placed centrally just above the waist.
The metal has a mid green patina and is worn. The strap end is 32.6mm long, 20.4mm wide, 3.1mm thick and weighs 5.3g.
A similar example is illustrated in Egan, G. & Pritchard, F. Dress Accessories 1150-1450 (2002), p.150, fig.98, no.706. Database examples include: CAM-24BFF2 and BERK-73D674.
