A fragment of a vessel of Medieval date (AD 1300-1400). The sherd is a beaded rim fragment of Medieval Vessel of Brandsby-type ware. It is a rim fragment from a large, everted-rim bowl. The fabric is off white-in colour, with pinkish-orange surfaces. The fabric has an abundant sand temper, with an absence of the rounded quartz sand inclusions typical of the earlier York Glazed Ware fabrics. It is hard fired. A dark green-glaze is glazed on the upper rim edge and onto the interior edge.
Large green-glazed bowls of Brandsby-ware type were introduced from the first half of the fourteenth Century.
