A fragment of a vessel of Medieval date (AD 1250-1400). The sherd is handle fragment of Medieval Vessel of Brandsby-type ware and is a fragment of a jug handle. The fabric is off white-in colour, with pink surfaces. The fabric has a frequent sand temper, with an absence of the rounded quartz sand inclusions typical of the earlier York Glazed Ware fabrics. Rounded red, clay pellets (c.1mm) are rare and unevenly distributed. It is hard fired with a pale green-glaze, yellow-green in sections, is glazed on the upper hemisphere of the ovular-sectioned handle and towards the broken upper edge. The glaze is absent from the underside of the handle.
