An incomplete medieval copper-alloy enamelled heraldic horse harness pendant, dating to the 13th to 14th century. The pendant is in the shape of shield with a flat top and curved sides. The suspension loop is vestigial on the top edge having been broken off. The front of the pendant bears a low relief design within a slightly sunken field. The design is of a gilded lion rampant on a red enamel background, which can be described heraldically as Gules a lion rampant Or. Much of the enamel has been lost, with much that survives around the lion; only a patch of the gilding survives. The reverse of the pendant is plain and undecorated, though now corroded.
The pendant measures 28.46 by 24.5 mm and is 1.88 mm thick; it weighs 7.9 g
The device may allude to the Arms of England.
