A cast copper-alloy double-loop buckle from the Late Medieval to early post-Medieval period.
The symmetrical frame has two D-shaped sides, separated from one another by an oval-sectioned axis bar. The upper surfaces of the rest of the frame slope downwards and outwards, and the width gradually expands towards the centre of the outer sides, where there is a grooved pin rest. The pin, which survives intact, is of flat section and has straight sides that converge to a point.
The object is distorted and there is a break in the frame, next to theaxis bar. The object has a light brown patina with some soil impaction. Length of buckle: 21.70 mm. Width: 17.12 mm. Thickness:1.67 mm. Weight: 1.695 grams. Reference: Ross Whitehead, Buckles, 1250-1800. Page 54.
