Gold finger ring, D-shape cross-section hoop. The outside curved edge is decorated with a series of boteh droplet shapes interspersed with alternating folate or triangular and triple linear designs. A broken border that is occasionally hatched runs round both edges.
The flat inside of the hoop is engraved with the lower-case inscription 'vertue is honnor'. This is followed by a maker's mark 'R' within an irregular shield.
Discussion: A similar maker's mark can be seen on a posy ring in The British Museum's collection (AF.1342) but is not identifiable in standard works of reference and so does not provide dating evidence. The style of the lettering is consistent with rings from the 17th to mid-18th century.
