BOW BROOCH

Unique ID: SF-4F9B18

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete copper-alloy bow brooch of Roman date. Only the foot survives, the remainder of the object is missing due to old breaks, now worn.

It is flat, flaring triangular in shape with a straight terminal edge. The front face is decorated with a central downward pointing triangle with a central longitudinal groove. On the back face are the remains of a central longitudinal catch plate.

Unfortunately the diagnostic features of this brooch are missing. Similar examples of decoration can be seen in Hattatt (Hattatt, 1989, p.311, no. 290, p. 312, no.1486).
