A Post Medieval copper alloy thimble, dating to the 17th century. This thimble has tall, straight slightly tapering sides and a domed peak. The pits are rectangular and have been drilled in a clockwise spiral pattern from the top. The pits stop 7mm down from the peak of the thimble. Beneath the pits there is a band of stamped decoration. There is a band with a raised repeating motif of an eight-pointed star within a circular pelleted border. In the gaps between the motifs are pellets. Above and below the band of decoration are further decorative bands formed of stamped diamond shapes. There is also an engraved line separating the pits from the decoration. The thimble has a dark brown pattination and no evidence of a maker's mark.
There is a similar thimble on the PAS database (LON-425DE5), though no exact parallels can be found. Based on the construction and form of decoration it is likely that this object dates to the 17th century.
