An incomplete copper-alloy single-loop buckle, dating from the Late Medieval to early post-Medieval periods.
The frame is sub-circular in plan, having an outward-pointing pin rest. Two tapering points project backwards from the right-hand side of the frame, separated from one another by a constriction, around which the inner end of the wire pin has been looped.
The frame has a green patina with some soil impaction. Length of frame: 28.86 mm. Width: 14.82 mm. Thickness: 1.83 mm. Weight: 2.027 grams.
Examples of buckles with forked spacers were found at Meols, Merseyside (Egan, in Griffiths et al 2007: 93). Evidence from excavations elsewhere suggests a date range of late 14th to early 16th century (ibid.).
