A complete copper alloy biconvex button, of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1550).
The button can be described in two parts: The head and the shank.
The head is biconvex in shape. Faint grooved spiral decoration is present on the head, centred around a raised pellet. The shank consists of a sub rectangular piece of metal with a circular peforation (hole) located in the middle. The internal diameter of the hole is 2.7 mm
It measures 15.0 mm in length, with a diameter of 10.7 mm on the head. The shank is 3.0 mm thick and 6.5 mm wide. It weighs 2.5 g
The button is a mid to dark green colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface.
