Copper alloy brooch. Hinged Colchester derivative, Mackreth type CD H 1.f.
Tubular wings with bead and reel decoration of their front side only, clenched behind, retain an axis bar and the stub of a hunged pin. A rectangular section bow bears two pairs of ridges flanking a central gutter, all very neatly executed. The bow tapers gently towards a tiny pedestal foot and the stub of a folded catch plate behind it. Now darkened by excessive application of oil by the finder. Suggested date: Early Roman, 75-125.
