A complete but worn cast copper-alloy harness pendant of Medieval date.
Consisting of a circular attachment plate with a rounded front and concave back face and an integrally cast central rivet. This is rectangular and tapers to a point. At the base of the plate is an integral double lug that has been folded backwards to create a transverse circular aperture with separately cast copper-alloy bar to enable attachment of the pendant.
The pendant itself is separately cast and circular with a rounded front and concave back face. On its top edge is an integral suspension loop. This is flat and oval with a central circular aperture set at an angle of 90 degrees to the plane of the pendant.
There are traces of gilding on the front face of the attachment plate and pendant.
This harness pendant measures 34.50mm in total length, 10.78mm in width at attachment plate, 9.06mm in width at pendant, 3.39mm in thickness at the lug, 1.13mm in thickness at the plate, 2.65g in weight.
This is a similar example from Norwich (Margeson, 1993: no. 1812) and recorded on the PAS database (SF-219362), (SF-65FE35).
