A complete copper alloy medieval turret brooch dating to the period c. AD 1250 - 1400. The openwork brooch is broadly quatrefoil in plan with a broadly square openwork centre. One of the perforations expands slightly into the openwork square and con tains a circular perforation to hold a complete pin. Each quatrefoil contains a circular perforation each contails a rivet which protrudes through the front face presumably to hold further decoration which is now missing. The front face contails four circular projections (6.5mm wide and c. 3.75mm in height) which contain a white substance possibly degraded enamel or more likely a paste, filler or adhesive underneath now-missing glass or gem settings. The reverse has remains of four small rivets.
The brooch measures 43.7mm in lenght, 43.05mm wide, 6.0mm thick (turrets), and weighs 9.98 grams.
