An incomplete penannular brooch of Early-Medieval date. The brooch is of Booth Type F (Fowlers Type F) with stylised zoomorphic terminals. Roughly half of the brooch frame remains and is circular in cross-section widening to a rectangular terminal with small knoped projections at each corner. This terminal is thought to represent a degraded form of zoomorphic decoration. The pin remains in tact with a tapering circular section and is fitted around the frame by a barrel-like loop consisting of hollow cylinder with moulded detail of raised bands and ridges. The tip of the pin has been lost to a worn break.
The metal has a mid green patina and is worn. The brooch frame is 37.4mm long and 3.3mm in diameter; the terminal is 5.2mm x 3.3mm and the pin is 34.7mm long. The object weighs 3.9g.
Numerous similar brooches have been recorded on the PAS database, for examples see: LIN-0C0594, SF10237, NCL-A31A61, LEIC-05BAF6 and NLM-A0DEB5.
