A complete, Post Medieval/Tudor, struck or hammered, silver alloy, Elizabeth I (1558-1603) threepence coin. Third or fourth issue (1561-1577) with rose behind head, larger flan. Obverse: Crowned bust left, with Tudor rose behind. Inscription: ELIZABETH D G ANG FRA ET H(IB RE)GINA Reverse: Square shield on long cross fourchee diving the legend. Date above shield. Inscription: (POSUI) DEU ADIUTOREM M(EU). Mint mark: Pheon (53) Mint name: London. Die axis: 12 o'clock. The coin is in fine or worn condition, full flan but the reverse struck a little off centre, slight edge chip above the head with a light tarnished but polished surface by the finder. This coin's date is 1561. Ref. Coins of England and the UK, Spink 2014, page 258 and English Hammered Coinage Vol. 2, J.J. North, Spink 1991 reprint 2006, page 135 No. 1998. The coin is 20.19mm long, 19.65mm wide, 0.85mm thick, diameter 20.19mm and weighs 1.5g.
