Early Medieval, copper alloy strap end, which does not fit into Thomas's classification but is best seen as a variant of his Class A. The body is oval, but from it projects a D-sectioned bar around which are two transverse mouldings. On the body is a panel of niello inlay. Trewhiddle style decoration consists of an animal, facing towards the strap end's split but with its head turned back over its shoulder. Some niello survives. Only one rivet was used, set within a plain rounded area; there are two indents on the upper edge of the split end. Condition good but some detail is obscured by varnish. Length 27.5, Width 8.5mm, Thickness 2.5mm, Mass 2.07g.
Compare YORYM-198D4E, and a find from York which has similarities (Thomas 2000, no. 258, fig. fig. 3.1E).
