Cast copper alloy book fitting dating from the late post-medieval or early modern period, that is the 17th-19th century. The fitting is complete with some of the surface gilding(?) still intact. It was cut from a bronze sheet and then decorated with stamped decoration, probably floral. The centrepiece resembles a fleur-de-lys but the decoration is too worn to be certain. None of the hinge mechanism survives, but the perforation in the opposing end is still present.
NB: The FLO has not seen this artefact in person. Images and find spot information were kindly supplied via email by the rally organiser/finder.
