STRAP END

Unique ID: FAKL-6F6996

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Cast copper alloy, Middle Saxon strap end, corroded with most decorative detail obscured or lost. Round-sided, tapering with two narrowed 'waists' towards the animal-head terminal. This retails some of its zoomorphic features; the bulging eyes and the shaping of the head. Behind the head are the traces of two 'U' shaped ears. The upper end of the strap end is bifurcated but is incomplete, the rivet holes being missing. The absence of decorative detail makes it impossible to classify this object further than Thomas' Class A. Length 44.5mm, Width 13.9mm, Thickness 4.8/3.0mm, Mass 8.13g.
