A copper-alloy strap clasp dating to the medieval period, circa 1270-1450 AD. The cast frame is rectangular, with top and bottom edges slightly outcurved and each decorated with a transverse ridge near either end. It has a narrowed and offset bar to either end. One has a rotating closure consisting of a T-shaped plate with a D-section rectangular bar mount attached with a single copper-alloy rivet. The copper-alloy attachment plate is folded around the other bar, and is secured by a single copper-alloy rivet. There is no evidence of decoration or tinning. Length: 38.85 mm. Width: 13.37 mm. Thickness: 2.45 mm. Weight: 3.00g.
In London these are found in contexts of the late 13th to early 15th century (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 116).
