An incomplete Roman plumbata. The spear is made of iron, comprising a shaft of circular section, tapering gently to a barbed head. The tip is missing. A lead weight has been cast onto the base of the shaft to act as a counter-balance. The weight is biconical and has an opening at the base in which part of shaft is visible.
Parallels for this object come from Wroxeter (Barker 1979), and Nettleton, near Bath (Wedlake 1982)
