A cast copper-alloy belt mount or harness fitting dating to the late second or early third century AD. The mount comprises an approximately rectangular plate with an asymmetrical openwork design of at least four trumpet motifs. The trumpet motifs are hemispherical in section. On the underside of the openwork plate, it is clear that the metal has not been filed down and appears as it would when it were cast. Three circular-section lugs extend from the underside of the plate and are positioned in a triangular formation. Each lug has a flat circular end-plate. The strap fitting measures 42mm in length, a maximum of 24mm in width and a maximum of 3mm in thickness. The lugs measures 5mm in length and are 3mm in diameter. The end plates measures 6mm in diameter. It weighs 13g.

The trumpet or 'trompetenmuster' motif is a common decorative feature of Roman metalwork dating to the second and third century AD. See Von Jenny, W.A. (1935) Keltische Metallarbeiten aus Heidnischer und Christlicher Zeit for a discussion of the motif.

This mount is identical to another found in the River Tees at Piercebridge (NCL-935E21), apparently cast from the same mould.
