A copper-alloy toy cannon, dating from the post-Medieval period.

The cannon has been cast in one piece and survives intact, having not been exploded. The chase has a slight taper towards the moulded muzzle band. At the opposite end, a subconical cascabel terminates in a knob, and a pair of trunnions, located just below halfway, project outwards at 90 degrees on either side of the barrel. A small vent hole is situated in a recessed band adjacent to the cascabel.

Length: 37.2mm; width: 15mm; bore diameter: 3.7mm. Weight: 4.65g.

Several toy cannon were found in excavations in London, where similar examples to this piece were dated to the period of the late 17th to 18th centuries (Forsyth and Egan 2005: pp. 79 - 84, cf. figs. 1.4 to 1.7).
