An incomplete copper alloy Nauheim derivative La Tene III type brooch dating to the Late Iron Age / early Roman period. The brooch has a narrow bow that tapers to the base. The outside edges of the bow are slightly serrated, with short transverse grooves leading inwards from each serration; the middle section is worn almost flat. On the spine of the bow itself are two (possibly three) incised 'X's arranged vertically. The catchplate is damaged but mostly complete and unusually also has serrations. Most of the spring coil and the pin is missing. No direct comparison could be found for this brooch, however the style is similar to other Late Iron Age Nauheim derivative bow brooches, of the Atrebatic region. Hattatt (2007:290) no. 149 is similar as is MacKreth's (2012:15-18) nos 4054 (Lowbury type), and perhaps more closely, 4169 and 4206 (ibid.). The latter are grouped by a common decorative theme, which is multiple 'cross-cutting' down the length of the bow. Although the brooch recorded here doesn't fit into either group easily it is of the same date, which is c. 50 BC to AD 80.
