Iron unidentified tanged implement. Wrought iron object comprising a tang of length 32mm, now of square section (though this form could arise from corrosion rather than manufacture), and a shouldered triangular 'blade' whose thickness increases from 3.3mm towards its flared end, where it is 8.5mm thick. This expansion is the opposite of the form expected of a bladed tool or weapon, and the generally good condition of the object suggests this is not merely an eccentric effect of corrosion. This reporter considers a function as a specialist craft tool or punch is perhaps the most likely explanation for this form. Suggested date: possibly Medieval, 1200-1500.
