A copper alloy trade token of Francis Samuel dating from the 19th century.
Obv. DRAPERY HOSIERY // & CLOTHES WAREHOUSE = The Chain Pier at Brighton
Rev. * SAML (L is miniature and raised above pellet) FRANCIS * BRIGHTON = 12 / ST. JAMES ST. (with both ST having minaiture T raised above a pellet).
This trade token seems to depict the Chain Pier at Brighton, which was built in 1823. Pigot's Sussex Directory in 1832-1834 lists Francis Samuel as residing at this address.
