MOUNT

Unique ID: SOM-F8E344

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A corroded post-medieval cast copper-alloy mount of c. 17th-century date. It has a flat trapezoidal body with bevelled edges on its upper surface. From the narrower end of the body an initially wider triangular protrusion emerges. From the wider end of the body is an initially narrower circular protrusion. From the flat back two integral prongs would have emerged. One no longer exists; its attachment scar is located at the centre of the circular terminal. A prong emerges from one of the bases of the triangular terminal, as such completely off centre. The prong curves inward to the centre of the terminal and has been truncated at the tip. This mount has corroded to a variable grey/green colour. Such mounts with integral prongs may have been from equestrian straps. This mount has been bent slightly in profile.
