COIN

Unique ID: SF-7C85D1

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A worn cast copper-alloy Iron Age Thurrock type potin, c.125-50 BC. The coin has rectangular casting sprues to each side of the flan. The obverse has a stylised head of Apollo(?) facing right rather than left as is usual, although an example published by Van Arsdell has the bust right (VA1422). Similarly, the reverse type has a more extensive legend than the 'MA' typically found on potins of this type, although its closest parallels seem to be Hobbs nos. 660-665.
