A post-medieval cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame with trapezoidal loops. The loops are rectangular in cross section. The outer edges of both loops are extended into points in the centre flanked by rounded knops at the corners. There is transversely incised line across each centre acting as a pin rest. There are projecting knops at the ends of the narrowed strap bar. The back is plain. The copper alloy pin is D-shaped in section with a flat back and convex front. It tapers gradually and consistantly from the end looped loosely around the strap bar to the slightly rounded point. The frame is 38.6mm long, 24.0mm wide and 3.5mm thick, 6.0mm including the pin; it weighs 10.68g.
Whitehead (2003: 84) illustrates a very similar frame, no.524, which he dates to c.1620-1680 AD and there are many similar examples on our database including SOM-F6B814. This buckle is curved in profile which is probably indicative of how it was used rather than post-depositional damage.
