Post Medieval (mid 16th to 17th centuries) strap mount: The copper alloy strap mount is a sub drop in plan with a a small integral knop at the upper edge and an inverted lis at the lower edge. The reverse is undecorated and has two integral studs which are square in section and taper to a point. Both studs are bent over towards each other. The surface of the mount has a mid grey coloured surface. It measures 23.18mm long, 8.44mm wide and 6.31mm thick, weighing 1.5g.
Strap fittings have been in use from the late Medieval to Post Medieval period. Egan (2005; p. 39) comments that when they were used as dress accessories and continued on horse harness straps into the 18th century. The style of decoration is similar to that on dress hooks of the 17th century (Margeson, 1993: Nos. 71 to 75).
