A medieval silver coin: a heavily clipped voided long cross penny of Henry III (1216 - 72). Not enough of the coin remains to provide a positive id but, if the remaining reverse letters read GIL as they appear to, the mint will be Canterbury, struck by Gilbert. It is probably Class 2 or 3 judging from the position of the letters on the obverse and the solitary visible hair curl, and thus dates from AD 1248 - 1250. It is 12.2mm long, 5.9mm wide and 0.8mm thick. It weighs 0.31gm. See North number 985 - 988.
