An incomplete lead Roman steelyard weight. Biconical in shape, with part of one edge missing due to an old break. This steelyard weight measures 36.7mm in length and 25.8mm in width. Through the centre of this weight there is a bar of iron; at one end of the weight it projects and forms a loop and the other projecting end of the rod is incomplete due to an old break, but is likely to have also formed at loop. One loop would have been for suspension and the other would have held the object being weighed. Similar steelyard weights have been found on other Roman sites within Suffolk.
