An incomplete Roman (AD 50-150) copper alloy Colchester derivative brooch (with double-pierced lug). It measures 55.57mm and weighs 15.18g.
The wings are C-shaped in cross-section (being concave to the reverse) and span 27.91mm. Both have a transverse groove close to the end of the wing. To the reverse is a double-pierced lug, the top of which extends above the wings to the top of the bow.
The bow is oval in cross-section where it extends from the top of the wings, measuring 4.31x4.24mm. It narrows to 1.90mm wide at the foot. The bow has a barely discernable rib at the top, extending from the double-pierced lug, but is otherwise plain and undecorated. There is some damage to the catch plate, and the end of the pin is missing.
