Silver finger ring. Cast ring with a plain rectangular section band at the back; the front half comprises a rectangular bezel with a quasi-heraldic device of a saltire with the ends of its arms crossed, flanked by segments with off-centre incised gutters with diagonal slashes either side in chevron patterns, plain billets, further incised segments and ornate stops comprising a billet with addorsed C-shaped curls above an inverted T and a final pair of plain billets. Suggested date: Medieval, 12th to 13th century. In view of the material and suspected date this object is to be submitted to the Treasure Process - Treasure reference 2014 T462.
Internal diameter: 17.6mm, Width (bezel): 7.2mm, Thickness: 1.8mm, Weight: 3.24gms.
Notes:
This object is made from silver and is probably over 300 years old. Therefore it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of age and precious metal content.
