An incomplete copper alloy cruciform mount, probably from a book, of Howsam type B.1.2. Medieval in date (AD 1300 to AD 1400).
Around 50% of the mount is present, consisting of the central boss and three out of the four arms present. One arm is complete, the rest are incomplete. The rest is missing, presumed lost in antiquity.
The central element is a circular domed boss. A circular perforation (internal diameter 4.4 mm) is present at the top of the boss. The surviving arms are flat and D-shaped; one arm has a circular perforation containing the remains of an iron rivet. The underside of the mount is flat and plain, the only exception being the centre, which is hollow.
It measures 22.4 mm in length, 19.4 mm wide and 5.3 mm thick. The metal is 0.8 mm thick. It weighs 1.0 g.
The mount is a mid to dark green colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.
