A silver object of probable Post Medieval date, probably AD 1700 - 1900. Originally thought to be a finger ring, it is perhaps more likely to be a ferrule from a cane, parasol, riding crop or even a scent bottle or other similar object. The object is band of rectangular sectioned metal which is fashioned into a closed loop with a straight butt joint. It is decorated with a triple collar along each long edge, and the recessed band in-between has regular transverse raised lines. The inner face is smooth and flat. There is no hall mark or maker's mark. The ring is 21.8mm in diameter (18.9mm internal diameter), and the hoop is 6.03mm wide and 1.4mm thick. 3.03g.
Notes:
Since the object cannot be certainly dated to before 1714, it does not appear to meet the requirements of the 1996 Treasure Act.
