A compete but broken copper alloy open-top thimble or sewing ring of early post-medieval date. The base is slightly splayed and wider than the top. The ring has a right-hand spiral of fairly regularly spaced rectangular pits in four to five rows around the sides. At the beginning of the spiral there is a mark, possibly a maker's mark or symbol. The symbol is floral in appearance with two of the four petals longer than the others. According to Holmes (1988) thimbles with maker's marks were imported from Nuremberg between AD 1520-1620, under the Guild of Thimble-makers.
