A Post medieval lead alloy powder measure cap. It is a small circular vessel with a circular base and straight sides, probably dating from the 17th Century. It is somewhat distorted. It was the cap of a powder measure (also known as an apostle since there were twelve on each bandolier) which contained enough gunpowder for a single round. Two scars show where two small loops once projected from the sides at the base; both are now missing. These would have allowed it to be attached to the bandolier and the body of the powder measure by a cord. For reference see Courtney, P. 1988 'Small Arms Accessories of the mid Seventeenth Century' Finds Research Group Datasheet 11. The powder measure cap has a dark grey patina. It is 21.6mm wide, 18.4mm tall, and 17.02mm thick. It weighs 13.22g.
