A sheet copper-alloy rivet, probably for repairing a sheet metal vessel, of later Medieval to Post-Medieval date.
It is formed from a kite-shaped piece of copper-alloy sheeting rolled to form a cone with the point at the top folded down to form the head.
This rivet measures 30.53mm in length, 19.12mm in diameter at head, 10.09g in weight.
Egan (2005: pp. 101) notes that rivets of this form superseded Medieval folded staples in the later 15th century but continued in use into the 18th century AD. There is also a similar example from Norwich (Margeson, 1993, p.77, no. 470) and recorded on the PAS database (SF-EF53D2), (SF9102), (SF9031).
