A cast copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch, dating from AD 75 - 175. In the centre of the bow is a moulding consisting of a circular collar, flanked above and below by three teardrop shaped knops forming the acanthus decoration, with the rounded end of the teardrops pointing towards the collar. Adjacent to the pointed ends of each set of teardrops are three raised, circular ridges in low relief, two narrow and a broader central ridge, all separated by narrow grooves. The circular foot also has a ridge, flanked by narrow grooves and the base of the foot is dished, with a prominent central pellet. Below the central moulding the bow is hemispherical in section and has an almost complete catchplate behind. There is a double collar round the mouth of the trumpet at the head of the bow. On the reverse of the head is has a tubular moulding, divided in the centre by a slot, to take a copper alloy pin bar and hinged copper alloy pin. Both pin bar and pin remain in place and are complete. There is an intact integral headloop. The brooch is 42.2mm long, 11.5mm wide and 17.6mm thick. It weighs 10.32gm.

A similar brooch (though with a sprung pin) is ilustrated in Mackreth, 2011, Brooches in Late Iron Age and Roman Britain, plate 78, number 5092
