BELL

Unique ID: BH-837BE7

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A lead-alloy bell, dating form the Medieval to post-Medieval periods.

The heavily damaged chamber has been cast in two pieces and would originally have been roughly spherical. The rounded loop is on the same alignment as a central casting seam, as is the dumbbell-shaped aperture at the base.

Width: 16.5mm; height: 19.5mm; weight: 3.27g.

The size of this bell suggests it was probably for use in falconry. A close parallel is PAS record BH-465137, from Shillington, Bedfordshire.
