An incomplete lead or lead alloy, uncertain artefact (possibly a biconical sword pommel or a steelyard weight) of probable Medieval dating (AD 1100 to AD 1500).

The possible sword pommel consists of a biconical lead or lead alloy weight, with a rectangular perforation at one end and an small circular perforation at the other. Both perforations are located centrally, and contain either a compacted soil or possible iron rod.

It measures 24.8 mm in length, with a maximum diameter of 31.0 mm. It weighs 115.9 g (4.09 oz).

The possible sword pommel is an off white colour, with an even surface patina.

A couple of similar artefacts have been recorded on the PAS database, including: HESH-8D8126 and WAW-CBEED5. The rectangular perforation would indicate that this artefact could be a possible sword pommel, as the tang for a sword is rectangular in shape. However it is also possible that this artefact is a steelyard weight as those like WMID-94B632; WMID-184456 and WMID-049777. However those tend to retain part of a suspension loop, which this artefact does not. It is probably Medieval in dating (AD 1100 to AD 1500).
