An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age (400-200 BC) La Tène I type brooch which is missing its head, the majority of the spring, the pin, catchplate and the foot. It measures 37.35mm in length, 6.95mm wide (across the bow), 14.85mm deep (bow to catchplate) and weighs 5.78 grams.
The majority of the head of the bow and spring are missing, one partial coil remains, the neck expands from now incomplete integral coil and projects outwards at a ninety degree angle to form the thickening bow. The bow is broadly pointed oval in plan and D shaped in cross section. It widens to 6.95mm at the centre, before narrowing to 2.75mm as the lower bow extends offset at the old break. The bow is curved to the front and the brooch is decorated with two horizontal grooves located at the point where the foot and head expand to form the main body of the bow, the bow is decorated with two vertical grooves.
The incomplete catchplate would have extended to one side of the lower bow, the catchplate and foot are missing.
