An incomplete copper-alloy semi-circular back plate from a dress hook of Post-Medieval date. It is missing the front plate due to old breaks, now worn.
It is flat and undecorated. Towards the base of the plate is a pair of circular rivet holes, still containing the corroded remains of separate iron rivets. At the bottom of the plate is an integrally cast hook. This is D-shaped in section, tapers to a point and bent forwards. The top of the hook is decorated with two transverse grooves.
This dress hook measures 26.04mm in length, 19.93mm in width, 1.73mm in thickness, 4.75g in weight.
This hook is similar in function to an example published by Read (Read, 2008, p. 218, no. 784).
