Lead probable spindle whorl. Cast cylindrical whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 10.5mm, and of an uneven profile, thicker on one side. The lower side (as moulded in an open mould) bears four small pellets in low relief. Patinated overall. The pellet decoration may tenuously relate this plain piece to the range of early post-medieval biconical whorls. The mass of this example would suggest its primary use would be to ply a cord. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1600.
