A cast copper alloy vessel leg/foot probably dating from the Medieval period.
The object is sub-rectangular in plan with straight sides narrowing towards the foot which is incomplete. The object has a central vertical rib down one face. The terminal end is worn and measuring 18mm in width and 5mm in thickness. The attachment end measures 29mm in width and 12mm in thickness. The object has a mid-green patina. There are adhering traces of an unidentified black substance, which is probably a sooty/carbon deposit, on each surface of the object.
Cast cooking vessels seem to have come into use in the second half of the 13th century and to have continued at least until c. 1600 (Geake 2001: 52).
