STRAP FITTING

Unique ID: SF-081EA2

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A complete and worn cast copper-alloy strap fitting, probably from a sword or baldrick belt of Post-Medieval date.

It is flat. At the attachment end is a transverse rectangular bar, still containing the corroded remains of a separate iron rivet. Beneath this is a sub-rectangular plate which tapers before expanding into a smaller transverse bar with rounded terminals. At the bottom of the plate is an integrally cast hook. This is D-shaped in section, rectangular and bent forwards.

This strap fitting measures 25.74mm in length, 13.99mm in width, 2.47mm in thickness, 3.46g in weight.

There is a similar example published by Read (Read, 2008, p. 222, no. 801).
