A probable incomplete cast copper-alloy vessel handle. This probable handle is curvilinear, rectangular in plan and roughly semi-circular in cross-section, with a rounded outer face and a flat inner face. It measures 56.4mm in length, 12.6mm in width and c7mm in thickness.

Projecting from the centre of the outer face of this probable handle there is an integral three dimensional moulded animal, measuring 33.8mm in length, 19.1mm in width and 13.6mm in thickness. It is lying down along the length of the handle with its back and front legs tucked under its body and its front paws beneath its head. The animal is perhaps most likely to be a lion as the head is small and cat like with small rounded ears, a short snout and an open mouth there is also a moulded an incised mane covering the neck.

The copper-alloy is patinated a dark brown and patches of pale green corrosion can be seen. No parallel could be found for this probable handle however due the metal type, its form and the style of the probable lion it is most likely to be Roman in date.
