Probable hinged part from a two-piece strap end with a hinged plate (missing). Attachment bar missing, central equal-armed, cross-shaped hole, terminates in a small loop which is broken. The back is flat.

Egan describes similar examples from London which have the terminal loop at right angles to the rest of the strap end. There is also a suggestion (Henig 1988) that these were a form of book fastening.
