Copper alloy composite three piece strap-end with a sheet spacer, from the Medieval Period and probably dating from the late 13th to the early 15th century. The strap-end is composed of two sheet metal plates separated by a sheet spacer occupying the whole width. The sides of the strap-end are near-parallel and the profile is slightly converging. The attachment edge has eroded, but was likely to have been straight or slightly concave, and the outside edge is curved with a pointed terminal knop. No decoration is discernible on either face, but tinning or silvering survives on both surfaces. The strap was secured by two rivets positioned near the sides and attachment edge. A third central and larger rivet was employed to secure the plates and spacer.

Notes:

The strap-end can be paralleled with three examples excavated in London (Egan 2002, p147-148, Nos. 699-701), all of which were recovered from late 14th century contexts.
